Adapter Programming Course for a Computer Manufacturer
A computer manufacturer was developing a programmable communications adapter card for their line of minicomputers. Although they had a large, experienced training staff, they didn't have anyone available with the background to develop a course for adapter programmers.
What the company needed
The company needed someone to develop and teach a very technical programming course for the adapter card. This required someone who could program in a state machine environment in PL/1 and C. The card contained an on-board debugger which was accessed by a command line interface from the minicomputer operating system.
The LTS answer
We started using the card in its beta lab environment to learn how it worked. We collaborated with the customer service engineer assigned to the project, the engineer who developed the software environment for the card, and the support engineer. From this experience, we developed and taught the programming course, including lab exercises.
The LTS solution
When the card was released, we taught the course for the manufacturer and its OEM partners in the United States, Europe, and Asia. The classes were taught for internal personnel (engineering and development, customer support, and technical sales), as well as prospective customers.
